Hello all you present and future lettering lovers! That's right, I'm talking to you!

With the launch of the lettering guide comes a lot of questions about supplies, starting out, projects and everything lettering! So I'm going to start pushing out some content to help you out along the way.

I get asked all the time what my favorite brands of brush pens are, and today I'm finally going to get it all down on paper (or computer) for you to reference! All of the links are to amazon--and nope! I'm not getting paid to point you anywhere (yet!)--I just really love these brands.

So take a peek, leave me a comment on your favorite if it didn't make the list, and let me know if you try any of these out!

My first love! When I first stepped out into the world of hand lettering, Instagram was buzzing with these pens, and everyone was using them. As you can tell from the photo of the wearing ink on the outside--this pen is well-loved--and for a good reason! The super pliable felt nib has the perfect amount of resistance for a beginning letterer to get the hang of brush pens. Bonus--they come in a million different colors!

I'll be honest here, the only reason I own this pen is because it's one of the only brush pens Hobby Lobby sold about two years ago before the craze of lettering really caught on. But! It's on this list because I really love it. The soft felt nib is super springy, making it another great pen for beginners to get the hang of how important pressure is to those thicks and thins. Bonus--it's lasted me forever and ever and ever.

Okay, listen up, because these are the most incredible pens--in. my. life.

Their colors are so friggen pigmented, it's crazy. They're water-soluble--which means you can do fancy things like blend the colors together. And the nib literally gives you the most velvety feeling when you're writing.

As are the others on this list--they're a great addition to any beginner's collection. You can buy them in the multi-color pack that i've linked here, or also find just one-by-one on Amazon as well.

Okay, yes, I know. "Am I crazy?" "Am I sure I didn't mis-type that?"

No, you are absolutely reading that right. Crayola. Washable. Marker. Like those five that are stuck in your couch cushion right now? Yeah, those ones.

For about three years now I've been teaching with these bad boys. People literally pay me money to show them how to letter--and I give them each one of these because I think they're the BEST for a beginner.

Reason one: they are inexpensive, super accessible, and come automatically to you in many colors.

Reason two: the nib is the easiest for beginners to learn how to control their pressure.

Reason three: literally just trust me--get yourself a ten pack and try them out.

Bonus?! My lettering guide and this marker pair perfectly--I actually created the guide using this pen!

Woo! We made it to the end! This is in no way an exhaustive list of all of the amazing pens I've used throughout the years, but I think these are definitely my favorites for those who are wanting to get their start in lettering.

Talk to ya'll soon!
